Choosing A Class
The age recommendations outlined for choosing a class have been carefully constructed to best group children in an age and developmentally appropriate way. Therefore, it is important that your child be at least the minimum age by the start of the semester for the class in which you are enrolling. If you have concerns about your child's success in a particular age range, I welcome the opportunity to discuss your child's needs and to work with you to choose the best class.
Non-Enrolled Siblings in Class
Non-mobile infant siblings are allowed to attend classes with older siblings if they remain quiet and are kept restrained in an infant seat or stroller. In order to ensure the best possible learning environment for each family, mobile siblings may not attend classes. Siblings are welcome to attend the last fifteen minutes of IMAGINE THAT! or the last 10 minutes of Young Child with the Parent. Please do not allow siblings to be disruptive during sharing time.
Free Visits
At certain times throughout each semester,we are happy to schedule a free visit for family members and friends who are interested in classes. Please contact us for information, including availability.
Registration
Although you may join my classes at any time during the semester, please register early since class sizes are limited and may fill quickly. Registering at least three weeks prior to the semester also ensures that I will have your child's At Home Materials for you at the first class. If you enroll after the semester begins, tuition can be pro-rated accordingly.
Cancellations/Make-up Classes
Classes will be made up in the event of teacher illness or inclement weather. Our studioI will follow the Shawnee Mission School District's decision on school closings, unless we call you otherwise. Any cancelled classes will be made up at the end of the semester.
Please let your educator know if your child is unable to attend a class. You're welcome to make-up a missed class by attending any of the same classes offered during the semester-- but you must call in advance to reserve space. When you call, you will receive a make up class code for your make up coupons. Please take a coupon (with the code) to your make up class.
Making the Most of Classes
Plan to arrive about 5-10 minutes early for class. This provides time for your child to settle in to the musical environment as he/she prepares to enjoy exploring instruments, reading books, or listening to music. Please keep toys, juice cups, and pacifiers out of sight, and finish any snacks prior to class. Be sure to dress comfortably.
During class, the most important thing you can do for your child is to be an active and patient role model. It is not uncommon for a child to attend several classes before feeling comfortable in class. Don't be discouraged-- what a child is absorbing in class is often evidenced in the comfort of the home environment rather than in a certain level of participation in class. The understanding and consistency of the parent or caregiver in class and at home are key to facilitating musical learning and growth.
When you are an active, focused, enthusiastic participant in class activities, your child will model your actions and focus more fully also. Because of this, please limit conversations with other parents to before and after class.
You and your child will enormously benefit from the Kindermusik experience, especially if you make active use of your At Home Materials. Frequent reinforcement at home throughout the week makes all the difference in a child's comfort and participation during class.
Returned Checks
There will be a $25.00 fee processed on any returned checks. Subsequent payments must be made by cash or cashier's check.
Refunds
If you aren't completely happy with your Kindermusik experience after attending at least five consecutive classes, we'll refund or credit all of your money except the cost of Home Materials which are yours to keep and enjoy.
Wellness Policy
We recognize that Kindermusik is a special time each week for you and your child. Even when a child is ill, sometimes a child will want to come to class because he/she does not want to miss a favorite activity or friends, however, most ill children will be cranky, lethargic, whiny, and/or aggressive and will not have a good class experience. Most apparent is that unwanted germs will expose other children and your educator. If you suspect your child is contagious, KEEP HIM/HER HOME where he/she will be more comfortable and not spread germs.
Maintaining a healthy classroom requires involvement by the educators as well as our families. Together, we can promote a healthy environment. In the event your child misses class due to illness, we have a liberal make up policy and will work with you to find a make up class that best fits your schedule once your child is well.
In class, the educator will promote a healthy classroom by:
- cleaning and sanitizing instruments and materials after each class
- routinely laundering scarves and blankets
- providing hand sanitizer for use by parents and children before, during and after class
We ask families to keep their child home if any of the following symptoms of illness are present:
· sore throat
· stomach ache
· inflammation/excessive redness of the eyes
· fever of 99.8 degrees or higher (for children under 6 months of age) or 100.5 degrees or higher (children older than 6 months)
· rash
· vomiting (that is more than "spitting up")
· diarrhea
· persistent coughing
· discolored runny nose
Children should not attend class within 24 hours of having strep throat, eye infections, fever, vomiting, or diarrhea. Children with other communicable diseases such as chicken pox, scarlet fever, whooping cough, fifths disease, influenza, conjunctivitis, or head lice should not attend classes for the period of time designated by a physician or the health department.
Thank you for your cooperation. If you have any questions or concerns, please let us know.
