Lesson Schedule
I have reserved space for your student(s) at __________________________________with the understanding that we will have a lesson each week at that time. If a permanent conflict arises with this lesson time, please feel free to contact me to discuss alternate arrangements. I am happy to work with you to ensure a weekly lesson time that complements both of our schedules.
If the need arises to discontinue piano lessons, please give me as much notice as possible, so that I can contact students who are on my waiting list.
Making the Most of Lessons
As is with any learning process, information acquired during piano lessons is best retained by reinforcing such information through at-home practice. My suggestion for practice scheduling is a healthy balance of quality and quantity. Going over each week’s assignment as soon as you get home is a great way to solidify any new concepts learned at the lesson. Also, the more you are involved with your child’s practice and practice habits, the more successful he or she will be!
For younger children and beginners, it is important to establish a regular pattern of practice, i.e., 5 days per week, 10 minutes per day. Making a habit of practicing daily early in the process will ease the transition we make into adding a few more minutes daily when skill levels increase.
For late beginner and intermediate students, I expect 30 minutes of practice, 5 days per week.
For late intermediate and advanced students, one to two hours of daily practice is expected.
Please remember that (for example) 20 minutes per day, 5 days per week will help your student learn more than if he or she practices just one day for 100 minutes. Creating a ritual in your child’s life is an important facet of a child’s development. We are forming habits as well as building our skills!
Beginning Students
Beginning students/ younger children will only be accepted at InJoy Music upon successful completion of the Kindermusik Young Child program (all 4 semesters). Click here for information. |
Payment
Payment is due at the first lesson of each month. Tuition is billed monthly at the rate of $________. There is a $10 late fee assessed to ANY payments not received by the 10th of the month. If you are going to miss the first lesson of the month, avoid the late fee by mailing the payment to my home address (listed above). You can also schedule an automatic payment through your bank. It's a convenient way to have payments mailed on time without you having to remember to write a check or buy a stamp!
A Word About Tuition
What you pay is tuition. It is not calculated as an hourly fee for services rendered because teaching is more than the time I spend with your student. Your tuition pays for the time I spend with your child each week, as well as preparation and evaluation of lesson plans, event planning and scheduling, creating student recordings, and organizing performances and seasonal activities, among many other things. It also affords me the ability to review and select "just the right piece" for your student, compose success plans for the short and long-term, and develop the best possible way to ensure your child’s musical potential is achieved!
Teacher Cancellations
I am committed to attending every scheduled piano lesson. In the event that I need to cancel due to illness, I will do my best to reschedule any missed lessons. However, due to my full teaching schedule, sometimes this becomes impossible. Please allow me the ability to cancel (without making up) one lesson per semester.
Cancellations/Make-up Classes
Make-up lessons will only be given due to sickness, provided I am notified of the absence prior to 2:00pm the day of the lesson. Make-ups will not be given for any other reason, and will be held one designated Saturday per month at Vaccaro’s. Late cancellations, non-illness related cancellations, and no-shows will NOT be rescheduled.
For weather-related cancellations, I will follow the Shawnee Mission School District’s decision on school closings. Lessons falling on holidays (see calendar) will not be rescheduled or credited.
Books and Materials
You are responsible for purchasing new music for your student. To make this process easy for you, when the need arises for new music, I will e-mail you a link to a shopping list at www.pianoatpepper.com. This vendor does not charge shipping and handling, and the music will arrive to you in a very short amount of time.
Leave of Absence
If your student(s) will be absent for more than four consecutive weeks, i.e., summer vacation, I require a deposit equal to half month’s tuition for each month he or she will be absent to reserve the lesson time. Payment is non-refundable and is due before the leave of absence occurs. |
